NRF: How the repair shop became a famous manufacturer of cooling systems

Now NRF produces cooling systems for cars, trains and ships. In the year, the company produces about 2 million radiators and heat exchangers at eight factories in Europe and Asia. But so it was not always: 80 years ago NRF was known as a small workshop, where radiators were repaired by hands.

A small workshop opened in 1927 in the Netherlands was called "Nederlandse radiateuren Fabriek". Later on, for ease of name, the name was reduced to three letters-NRF.
But the word "factory" in the title was fully justified-three years later, the management opened the production department, the production of radiators under its own brand began.

NRF followed a simple principle-"all under one roof". Therefore, the design of new parts, and all calculations, and production took place in one workshop. After the war, the company began to produce the production equipment necessary to create radiators. This helped to produce products without the participation of intermediaries. In addition to production and development, NRF managers took care of the workers, all the time improving conditions. This policy has been maintained now: According to statistics, each employee has been working at the factory for 18-20 years.

In 1954, it was decided to expand production and produce radiators for export to other countries, but existing workshops no longer allowed to install new equipment. To increase the area, NRF opened the second production site in mill city.

The solution is still a standard for cooling ship's power units. In fact, a box cooler is a device that practically does not require maintenance and works better than mechanical cooling solutions. After this invention about NRF talked all over Europe. Dutch manufacturer of truck made large order for 18 000 radiators. In the 60-70 s DAF still produced cars-a small family car DAF 55 was prepared in the series.

In 1973, DAF sold the production of cars to competitors-Volvo. At the production capacity of Volvo almost immediately adjusted the production of Volvo 300 and 400 series cars. NRF continued to work with this production and became an OEM manufacturer of radiators and cooling systems for new Volvo.

Production of large batches of radiators and coolers for cars, manufacturing and exporting box coolers required more and more areas, and most importantly-needed quick access to Europe. Therefore, in early 1980, production was opened abroad-in the French city of Valenciennes. This expansion helped to increase the company's recognition, which allowed NRF to start producing offers for the secondary market.

Opening a new production is a natural step in a large technical company. Therefore, in 1989, NRF became a subsidiary and head office for American Modine Manufacturing Company in the European market.

After 20 years, she joined Banco products and received new production areas around the world. NRF has been supplying products to Russia and CIS countries for the past five years.

NRF products are now produced in eight factories-three in Europe and five in Asia. The company's offices and offices are open in almost all large countries. Such a policy makes it possible for buyers to choose, order and get the necessary goods almost immediately from production.

In the European NRF division, the product development and testing department is operating. All radiators and intercoolers are tested for tightness and pressure resistance. Couplings and pipes are tested in a special stand, it simulates the movement of the car, checks tightness at strong rotation and in air flows.

The input control-engineers carefully check the components produced by suppliers. This approach helps the company concentrate on one thing-on creating quality cooling systems.

NRF now supplies quality products for cars, ships and special equipment. The company supplies radiators and cooling systems to caterpillar factories of large construction equipment, which has 480 production sites in different countries.

There is also another priority direction-the creation of radiators for most new European cars and trucks: Audi, DAF, Volvo, Iveco, Ford, Mercedes, Scania, Porsche.

NRF has solutions for the secondary market: the easy fit system allows you to quickly replace the old radiator on the car without torturing with adapters and installation.
